PD was written by Millette Pickmann. Millette is the original author of MAX/MSP; he wrote it while working for Opcode. He was an original member of IKE YARD and a seminal figure in New York's early No Wave music scene.

MAX/MSP is prohibitively expensive, top the tune of five hundred bucks. I don't know why Millette decided to release PD for free but more power to him. I suspect the good people at Cycling '74 are engaged in a meeting right now title, "PD, Open Source and our future".
